Job Description:
Prepares and sets up the exam room for patients following procedures and protocols.
Reviews the schedule and communicates any changes or necessary information with the team, including providers and front office staff.
Greets and escorts patients to and from their appointment by being courteous and professional.
Prepares patients for exams by taking vital signs and x-rays, recording the patient’s chief complaints and medical history, and completing Meaningful Use requirements.
Helps patients feel calm and comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
Prepares for and assists providers with most types of procedures/x-rays that are performed in the clinic as outlined in the Dental Assistant Checklist.
Delivers and positions instruments for provider access and assists with suctioning.
Provides materials by selecting and mixing materials, pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
Assists with fabricating temporary restorations and cleaning and polishing removable appliances.
Documents dental care services by charting in the patient’s electronic record (EDR).
Monitors clinic flow, communicates any delays and/or changes, and appropriately answers patients’ questions and requests.
Facilitates communication between the front office and providers to ensure timely and orderly patient flow.
Prepares, sterilizes, and cleans laboratory and healthcare equipment and instruments in accordance with ICHS, OSHA, and WISHA requirements.
Reports defective equipment and/or devices to the supervisor or appropriate personnel.
Checks sterile supplies to ensure that they are not outdated.
Operates and maintains autoclaves, keeping records of maintenance procedures performed.
Protect patients and employees by adhering to the organization’s infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Ensures proper operation of laboratory and healthcare equipment and instruments by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, maintaining necessary records, and informing supervisor or authorized personnel of any need for repair.
Provides instructions on oral hygiene and preventive care to patients following dental treatment procedures when indicated by the dentist.
Assists with the referral process as needed.
Stocks exam rooms throughout the day and assists leads and supervisors in maintaining dental supplies in inventory.
Anticipates needed supplies and assists with tracking expired medication and supplies.
Position Requirements:
Education – High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of a Dental Assistant program is preferred.
Experience – 6 months of Dental Assistant experience is preferred. Dental Assistant experience with patients with special health care needs is preferred.
Software-Epic and MiPAC-preferred but not required
Hours: Ability to work various shifts between the hours of 7:45 am and 6:15 pm Monday to Friday, with one Saturday per month.
Other Requirements – Dental Assistant Registration from the Washington State Department of Health is required.
