Job Description:
The Drop-In Centers are safe spaces designed for 18-25 year-olds that provide resources such as computers, hygiene products, snacks, and public transportation tokens, referrals, and resources to address various concerns.
Regularly scheduled programming includes recreational opportunities, community meetings, social nights, vocational workshops, educational activities, workshops addressing independent living and daily living skills, arts/music exploration, and groups and activities addressing personal health and wellness.
The Peer Partners facilitate a safe and welcoming environment for Drop-In Center participants, provide support and peer mentorship, give resources, and plan, implement, and co-facilitate groups and activities.
Peer Partners use their own personal life experiences to inform programming and connect with participants.
Core competencies include the ability to facilitate a safe and welcoming environment, provide active support as an informal counselor, employ supportive interpersonal skills, assist young adults in meeting their personal goals, and respond calmly and professionally to crises.
Essential functions include providing oversight of programming, planning and co-facilitating activities and groups, conducting outreach activities, and collaborating and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
Applied knowledge, skills, and abilities include having personal life experiences such as mental illness, physical health or medical issues, involvement with the juvenile justice or child welfare systems, substance use, trauma, immigration, and family/community violence, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work afternoon and evening hours Monday-Friday, and some weekends.
Physical, environmental, and mental requirements include being able to lift/carry objects up to 20 lbs. in weight, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods, climb stairs, distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, concentrate on moderate details with constant interruption, and attend to a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time.
