Mental Health Specialist (AMFT, ASW, or APCC)

We are looking for a Mental Health Technician to support our non-profit client in San Francisco who's mission is to aid homeless veterans in their journey to permanent housing!

This will be a contract-to-hire position in San Francisco. Supervision hours are available!

Position Overview: Alright, listen up! As a Mental Health Specialist, you're the MVP for 19 homeless veterans. You're going to be counseling, conducting group therapy, case management, and more. When the Program Manager's MIA, you're the go-to hero. And guess what? You can rack up those supervision hours for your license while you're at it. Ready to rock this role and make a real impact? Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical case management and short-term therapy with a harm reduction approach
  • Offer substance abuse counseling as requested by veterans
  • Provide crisis counseling and risk assessment
  • Lead weekly group sessions
  • Offer community-based support, including transportation when needed
  • Achieve program goals and outcomes
  • Collaborate with various VA providers for coordinated treatment
  • Maintain accurate program documentation within designated timeframes
  • Assist with program-related tasks such as meal preparation and wellness checks
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by management

Requirements:

  • Education: Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or counseling
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with BBS towards licensure
  • Clinical License preferred (not required)

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with DSM V and experience with mental health, substance abuse, and medical co-occurring conditions
  • Valid California Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Successful completion of Food Handler’s Course upon hire
  • Effective communication skills and comfort with at-risk client population
  • Support for agency's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative

Skills:

  • Understanding of homelessness-related mental health and trauma issues
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention methods
  • Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and crisis management.
  • Active listening ability
  • Collaborative teamwork and role modeling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
