Title: Teacher Assistant - Early Care and Learning Center Pay: $20 - 22.89/hr Location: Antelope Valley (Palmdale)
Contract opportunity until May 2025 with possible extension
Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Schedule may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Overtime may be required.
General Summary: Under general supervision of the classroom Teacher or Teacher w/ Waiver, the Teacher Assistant supports activities that stimulate learning across all developmental domains, engage caregivers, set individual goals for children, assess progress, and facilitate transitions to kindergarten.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Interactions with Children and Families (80%):
Assist with classroom management, including transitions and sign-in/sign-out processes.
Support age-appropriate activities using curriculum and materials that foster growth and development.
Promote inclusive practices and ensure a clean, safe, and sanitized environment.
Help with food service, deliveries, and other classroom needs.
Communicate with the teaching team about child progress and strategies.
Observe and support home visits and parent conferences.
Maintain professional communication with parents and caregivers.
Staff Relationships (10%):
Assist with daily classroom routines and functions.
Observe and support Individual Education Plan (IEP) processes and ensure children receive necessary services.
Maintain professional boundaries and communication with staff.
Administrative Functions (10%):
Assist with the completion and submission of monthly reports and weekly lesson plans.
Collect observations for ongoing assessments and ensure compliance with regulations.
Adhere to child abuse reporting policies and confidentiality requirements.
Report issues, emergencies, and unusual incidents promptly.
Non-Essential Duties:
Maintain facility security and assist with equipment and supply inventory.
Engage in parent meetings and assist with planning and materials setup.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
Minimum Required:
Education: 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including 3 semester units in Infant & Toddler Development. Internal applicants may substitute with successful completion of the Teacher Aide Apprenticeship program.
Certifications: Current California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Child Development Teacher Assistant Permit or above. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate upon hire or within 30 days.
Technical Skills: Intermediate skills in Zoom, Outlook, Microsoft Suite, and PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and regulations.
Behavioral Skills: Ability to manage workflow, supervise children, and respond to emergencies. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Adhere to confidentiality and security policies.
Work Environment: Early Care and Learning Center with classrooms, playgrounds, and office spaces. Background and health clearances required.
Preferred:
Experience: Previous experience in early childhood education and familiarity with IEP/IFSP processes.
Technical Skills: Advanced technology skills.
